Blue Earth Products offers a variety of products and services to combat biofilm and its effects in a wide variety of water systems from treatment to distribution as well as in facilities, agriculture, and HVAC. Our products comprehensibly clean utility, industrial, and commercial water systems preventing deposits and biofilms from forming to extend system life and reduce operating and maintenance costs.
There are two primary concerns related to biofilms in water systems:
- Health and wellness, and
- System efficiency and maintenance
Microbes exist in every water system, and as they grow, they attach themselves to wetted surfaces and form biofilms. Biofilms have complex structures that provide resistance to various disinfectants and antibiotics making them difficult to remove. These biofilms can harbor harmful bacteria and pathogens. As water passes through the system, bacteria and pathogens are dislodged from the biofilm contaminating the water which can lead to infections, illnesses, and even deaths if humans or animals come in contact with the contaminated water. Biofilms latched to wetted surfaces can also induce corrosion, weakening the water infrastructure and potentially leaching harmful chemicals into the water (i.e. lead and copper) affecting users and the environment. Aside from the contaminants biofilms introduce to the water supply, biofilms create barriers within the water system affecting flows and system performance. Biofilms significantly impact the efficiency of heating and cooling surfaces as they impede the heat transfer processes.
Clearitas® is Blue Earth Products’ proprietary deposit control formulation engineered to break down and remove organic and inorganic materials from all online water infrastructures. The addition of Clearitas, in conjunction with a traditional disinfectant (often present in the city source water), effectively remediates the effects of bacteria in water systems. Clearitas has been used to eliminate scales, films, and residues in water columns, faucets, food and beverage equipment, cooling towers, and other equipment.
Blue Earth Products’ suite of Floran® chemicals remove the toughest deposits from equipment and storage infrastructure. A thorough cleaning is performed using Floran products while the equipment is temporarily out of service. Many systems thought to be at the end of their service life have been revitalized to provide many years of additional service saving time and money on replacements.
