Water distribution systems are subject to accumulating deposits, biofilms, and corrosive sediments which negatively affect the overall water quality. Over time, these build up inside water distribution pipes causing high chlorine demand and contributing to the formation of regulated disinfection by-products (DBPs). They also provide harborage for pathogens and viruses. Blue Earth Products’ chemical cleaning solution, Clearitas®, safely and effectively removes such deposits restoring your system to the highest quality standard.
The Clearitas Impact
Biofouling and other organic deposits create greater disinfectant demand and worsen the effects of water age. These surface contaminants also increase DBPs, result in nitrification, and induce microbiological corrosion. Clearitas breaks down biofouling and organic films so they can be effectively removed from the system while also preventing new accumulations from forming. By removing these deposits, you’ll experience:

- Reduced chlorine demand,
- Decreased DBPs,
- Stabilized chlorine residuals, and
- Improved overall water quality.
These improvements will further show in reduced flushing and maintenance costs, easier compliance with regulations, improved taste and odor, and reduced customer complaints.
Clearitas can be used in any potable water distribution system, including HVAC/cooling tower systems, food and beverage systems, hospital and facility plumbing networks, hydroponic water grids, and poultry and dairy water lines. The addition of Clearitas should especially be considered for systems with multiple lag points, such as multiple bends or oversized piping networks required for new building regulations, or systems that lie dormant for extended periods of time, such as 9-month primary schools, universities, and unoccupied commercial buildings. Dormant water pipes are breeding grounds for biofilms and should be thoroughly evaluated and remediated prior to being brought back online.
Science of Clearitas

Clearitas is a powerful, liquid formulation of oxidized chlorine engineered to remove organic and inorganic deposits within water distribution systems. While traditional disinfectants may burn away the top layer of build up or temporarily remove harmful deposits, they do not effectively attack the entire biofilm layer leaving the root cause of the problem in place. Clearitas is made up of oxygenated salt cluster ions which preferentially react with and disrupt organic molecules. This allows Clearitas to effectively penetrate and break down the components adhering biofilms and deposits to piping and each other, thus resulting in their removal from the system.
Clearitas is certified NSF60 and works well alongside all common water treatment chemicals, including disinfectants such as chlorine, sodium hypochlorite (bleach), chloramine, chlorine dioxide as well as non-oxidizing treatment additives such as poly- and ortho- phosphates, fluoride treatments, and others. Clearitas does not represent a change in the existing disinfection, it simply supplements your current treatment plan to alleviate the problems standard treatments cannot address.
